Joseph Silveira

December 26, 1939 — April 9, 2022

Lecanto

A wise person once said everyone would die, not everyone lives, and that is just what he did; he lived.

Joe was born on December 26, 1939, in Horta Faial Azores, to Antonio and Maria Beatriz Silveira. He immigrated to America in 1967 with a dream of a better life than he had for his family.

Joe loved to travel and was always up for a road trip, destination nowhere. He always believed life should be enjoyed, not structured; sights were meant to be seen, to take the road less traveled. Whether it was the mountains in Maine, the cliffs off Rhode Island, or beaches in Florida, he always believed you needed to see the beauty in every space and take a moment to enjoy all of them.

His other passions were fishing, telling stories about the “big one that got away,” and people-watching at amusement parks. However, he would rarely go on a ride faster than a train.

He always had a big heart, helping anyone in need. In true Portuguese fashion, he loved feeding people and took great pride in that ability. He hoped it would nourish their souls and prayed it would start a ripple to help feed others.

A member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, he was a God-fearing man who loved going to church and having his special moments with Jesus.

His faith was tested in 2018 when his beloved wife of 39 years Donalda Silveira suddenly passed away. He always anticipated one day being reunited with her. On April 9, 2022, his ultimate dream came true; he got to be reunited with his best friend.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Maria (Tony) Bradley, Paula O’Connor, Joseph (Poloma) Silveira, Manuel Silveira, Deria (Paul) DaCamara, and Linda (Alex) Sosnicki. He was also the proud Avo to 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 10:30 AM  at Heinz Funeral Home, 2507 Hwy 44 W, Inverness, Florida. The Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 PM by Fr. Claudius Mganga. Joe will be laid to rest at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Floral City following the service.
