Dorothy "Dot" Koehler, 82, passed away April 22, 2021 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. She was born April 1, 1939 to Florence and Lars Thompson in Brooklyn, New York.
Dot married the love of her life, Robert (Rob) Kohler, in May 1959. They were high school sweethearts and devoted to each other spending 42 happy and productive years together until his demise in 2001. They previously lived in St. Petersburg, Florida moving to Citrus County in 1985.
Dot owned a prosperous antique business, Cobblestone Alley Antiques, located in the downtown area of Crystal River in Heritage Village. She was known for her unique primitive furniture and decorative items, drawing customers from far and wide. Together, she and her husband, Rob, were popular personalities in Crystal River, assisting in the Community Development Block Grant. That granted helped many business owners on Citrus Avenue renovate their store fronts. They also were instrumental in planning and promoting the boardwalk near Kings Bay in the beginning stages.
Upon her retirement from Cobblestone Alley Antiques, she went on to work at All About Nature, a popular tourist establishment also in Heritage Village, for approximately 12 years. Dot loved working with the public in retail sales and never met a stranger! She loved entertaining was an avid baker excelled at floral arranging and enjoyed gardening. But her main passion was antiques! She was always on the prowl for the special item to add to her collection or purchasing for others when she came across items for their collections. Dot had many friends who have been influenced by her knowledge and endearing personality. Dot is survived by her sister, Gail Switzer and husband Kevin in New Hampshire. She also has two nieces residing in New Hampshire. She absolutely adored her two cats “Cookie” and “McKenzie”, who are sadly missing their mom. Rest in peace dear Dot, we miss you and know you are busy shopping in the great antique store in the sky!
