Stephen J. Spengler, 80, of Hernando, FL, passed away on April 2, 2023. He was born on July 15, 1942, in Ocheyedan, IA to the late Charles and Ione Spengler.
He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War and his patriotism would continue throughout his entire life. He was a generous man and a respected banker who cared for his customers. Mr. Spengler was very straight forward, had a quick wit, and his great sense of humor endeared him to so many people.
In his spare time, he loved to work outdoors tending to his garden and flowers. Mr. Spengler even won contests for his hard work in the yard. He was an avid reader, mostly about history and foreign settings, and shared that love with his children. He was a strong and loving father and enjoyed taking trips with the family and looking after his granddaughters.
Steve discovered he loved playing golf later in life than most. In spite of his late start, he was a continuous student of the game and was determined to take lessons and practice to improve his game right up to the end.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Scott Spengler and his wife Amie; daughter, Stacy Pemberton; brother, Edward Spengler and his wife Susan; and three grandchildren: Mikayla, Elizabeth, and Erica.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Roberta Snow.
