Wescott, John Francis “Scotty” , age 84, of Hernando, FL., died Friday, June 26, 2015. Scotty was born in New York City, September 10, 1930. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York until he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was a corpsman stationed in St. Petersburg and Attu Island in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. While stationed in St. Petersburg he met his future wife Patricia. Scotty attended St. Petersburg Junior College and received his B.S. Degree in Advertising from the University of Florida. He started his career in advertising at the St. Petersburg Times upon graduating in 1958. In 1962, he moved with his family to Los Angeles, CA to help establish the western edition of the New York Times. In 1964 the New York Times decided to close operations. During the same year, Scotty took an advertising position at the Los Angeles Times. In 1967, The Los Angeles Times transferred Scotty to New York City to establish their national advertising sales office where he spent the next 26 years and was the Assistant Sales Manager. While in New York, he was president of the National Advertising Association from 1981 to 1983. After living in Ridgewood, New Jersey for 38 years Scotty and his wife Pat moved to Hernando, Florida to enjoy the Florida lifestyle and extensive travel. Scotty belonged to the American Irish Club, Lecanto, Florida. Scotty was predeceased by his parents John S. and Frances Wescott and a sister Josephine. Surviving is his loving wife Pat of 60+ years and his children John F., Jr. of North Arlington, New Jersey and daughter Kathleen M. Burke (Joseph) of Landing New Jersey. Scotty was a devote Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church on Friday, July 3, 2015 at  9 AM.
