Robert Kohm

d. March 17, 2018

Robert G. Kohm, 71, of Hernando, FL died on March 17, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his wife, Dianne Pearson Kohm, and Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. “Lucky Bob”, as he called himself, was born on December 4, 1946 in Memphis, TN, son of the late George and Betty (Denker) Kohm.  As young boy, Bob moved with his family to Connecticut where he lived until 2013 when he relocated to Citrus County, FL.  Bob received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he participated in ROTC and became a commissioned officer in the US Army. He was proud to serve his country in both Germany and Vietnam. After his service, Bob was employed by various engineering firms including John Brown, Crawford & Russell and ChemTech designing chemical and pharmaceutical plants, and retired from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in 2013.  Bob was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando, FL, Skyview and Citrus Hills Golf and Country Clubs and Moose International.

In the summer of 2014, Bob set out on a bicycle adventure which amazes people to this day. Pinned to the back of his shirt was an embroidered sign which said “Key West FL to Fort Kent ME - S.O.S. Food Pantry - Helping to Feed the Hungry”. Although the trip had been on his bucket list for thirty years, he wanted to support a worthwhile cause, raising over $6200 for our local food pantry. He pedaled 2735 miles up the coast in 62 days with the same perseverance and commitment that he lived every day.

Bob had a mission to “bring a smile or laughter to someone every day”. Friendly and outspoken, you always knew what was on his mind. Very competitive, he loved playing golf and cards, especially bridge and hearts. He enjoyed many music genres and could name that tune and artist in two notes. He valued family, his faith, his country and good friends. A favorite toast that he often used was “Here’s to health, wealth and friendship. If you have good friends, you are healthier and wealthier than you will ever be.”

In addition to his wife Dianne, Bob is survived by his two sons, Aaron Kohm and his wife Sarah of South Hadley, MA and Michael Kohm of Middletown, CT; daughter, Rebecca Kohm of New York, NY; step children, Brian Jacobson of St. Louis, MO, Kristen Jacobson of Portland, ME, and Jonathan Cooper and wife Latasha of Powder Springs, GA; and grandchildren, Theo Kohm, Owen, Langley, and Beaux Jacobson and Jordan Cooper. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, James Kohm and sister, Cheryl Kohm Bridgeman.

A memorial service for Mr. Kohm will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando, FL. Family will be available to greet visitors one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness, FL.

Bob’s final request would be that any memorial gifts in his memory be directed to the S.O.S. Food Pantry, c/o Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 439 E. Norvell Bryant Hwy., Hernando, FL 34442.
