Richard J. Eggleston, Sr.

Inverness

Richard J. Eggleston Sr., 83, of Inverness, Florida, passed away on January 2, 2023. He was born in Glens Falls, New York, on April 23, 1939, son of the late William and Delta Eggleston.

Mr. Eggleston worked as an aircraft electrician for the US Army and retired after 21 years of service.  He also spent time in the US Coast Guard.  As a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, he served as an usher and volunteered for the Helping Hands Food Pantry.  He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a lifetime member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Shirley, William, and Gary.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shirley; six children, Brian Eggleston and his wife, Stephanie, Mary Ellen Eggleston Richardson, Richard Eggleston Jr. and his wife, Julie, Tracey Eggleston, Colleen Vierschilling and her husband, Dave, and Kevin Eggleston; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell with full military honors.
