Patricia “Pigtails” Widener, age 77, departed on January 31, 2021 in Beverly Hills, FL. She was at home and surrounded by loved ones while under hospice care.
Patricia was born July 24, 1943, in Brockton, Massachusetts to parents Nathan A. and Edith L. Mayhew. Patricia was the youngest of three children and adored her older sister and brother. She earned the affectionate moniker “Pigtails” as a child in reference to her iconic hairstyle. Her family moved from Brockton to Orlando, Florida when she was young. In Orlando, she graduated from Colonial High School in 1961.
Professionally, Patricia worked at Hale Orange Groves where she supervised ordering and marketing. Her predominant experience was in medical billing and coding. Using those skills, she retired from Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach, FL.
Patricia, being a talented homemaker, had gourmet kitchen skills and several trademark recipes. In addition to her cozy meals, Patricia will be remembered as comforting and warm. She was a thoughtful listener who loved to laugh at a lighthearted quip. Patricia was an animal lover who always had at least one cat. Among other things, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.
She is survived by her sister Natalie Page, her daughter Theresa L. Szufel, her son and daughter-in-law Michael N. and Sara Szufel, and daughter and son-in-law Ann Marie and Donald O’Shall. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dana O’Shall, Zofia Szufel, and Violet Szufel, in addition to many nieces and nephews. She has many surviving extended family members, friends, and loved ones.
Patricia lived a life full of love. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley Szufel, her second husband, Joseph DuCap, and her recent husband, Fred Widener. She is also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Wayne Mayhew.
To honor her faith as a devout Christian, her service will be held at Rock Crusher Road Church of God on February 7, 2021. The service will be private to respect the wishes of the family. She will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements have been made by Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness, Florida.
