Lydia Liquet

Aug 7, 1935 — Jul 28, 2026

Inverness

Lydia Liquet, 90, of Inverness, FL, went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family and friends she spent a lifetime gathering. She was born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico on August 7, 1935, to the late Felipe Cabrera and Esther Lopez Cabrera — the beginning of a life that would touch countless others.

As a young girl, Lydia moved to New York City, where she was raised and grew into a remarkably capable woman. She taught herself the arts of sewing, crocheting, cooking, and secretarial work, mastering each with the same quiet determination she carried her whole life. It was in New York that she met and married, Albert Liquet.

Proud of her roots as an original "Boricua," Lydia returned home to Puerto Rico in 1980, settling back in Fajardo for 15 cherished years. There, she wore many hats with grace — serving as a secretary at the local Community College, working as a ranger amid the beauty of El Yunque Rain Forest National Park, and continuing her craft as a skilled seamstress and tailor. Her faith was central to her life during these years, and she poured her heart into the Iglesia Evangelica Unida de Fajardo, lifting her voice in the choir.

In 1995, Lydia and her family made Citrus County, Florida their home. She kept her hands busy and her talents sharp, continuing her work as a professional seamstress — even tailoring scuba diving suits with the same precision she brought to everything. Her devotion to her faith never wavered, and in 2001 she became a founding member of the Citrus County Community Church, helping to build a community that would carry her legacy forward.

Lydia had a gift for loving people. After she was widowed, she turned that gift outward, dedicating herself to building relationships and visiting the sick. She found deep joy in praying over those in nursing homes and hospitals, and in celebrating alongside them as they were healed. Hers was a faith lived out in action, one visit and one prayer at a time.

During the last six years of her life, Lydia continued doing what she did best — loving people. At The Grove, she formed deep bonds with fellow residents and staff alike, practically adopting every nurse and caregiver as her own. To Lydia, there was no such thing as a stranger; everyone she met became family.

In her later years, her hands stayed as busy as her heart. She found peace and purpose in sewing, knitting, crocheting, oil painting, and countless other crafts — including her beloved plastic cross-stitch dogs, which she would lovingly pray over before giving them away as small tokens of her boundless generosity.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Liquet; her brothers Samuel Sanchez, Carlos Cabrera, and Felipe Cabrera Jr.; her sister Lillian Cabrera; and her beloved son, Frankie Rizzo.

She leaves behind a legacy of love carried on through her children, Jimmy Rizzo (Minerva), Michelle Brunk (Bruce), and Albert Liquet (Sarah); her siblings, Gloria Sanchez, Iris Garcia, Andrea Rochford, Paul Cabrera (Olga), Yolanda Cabrera, Ivonne Cabrera, José Arnaldo Cabrera, and Nahum Cabrera. She was affectionately known as Grandma "Banana" to Joshua, Joseph, and Deborah Brunk, and as a cherished grandma to Jacob, David, Hezekiah, and Trinity Liquet, as well as Ralph, Venus Kassandra, and Jamie Rizzo. She is also survived by many other extended family members and friends whose lives she touched along the way.
