Laura L. Wear

Laura L. Wear, 97, born December 4, 1928 in Hilo, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026 at her home in Florida.

Laura was born and raised in Hilo, where she met and married the love of her life, Eugene Clyde Wear. She was a proud military wife who carried strength, grace, and aloha throughout her life after Eugene passed on January 14, 1965 while serving in the United States Military.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her resilience, and the deep love she had for her family.

Laura is survived by her brother, Alex Barboza of Hilo, Hawaii; her sons, Robert L. Wear of Inverness, FL and James Edward Wear of Homosassa, FL; her daughter, Marilyn Wear Griffin of Inverness, FL; her daughter-in-law, Carole Van Dusen Wear of Hudson, FL; five grandsons, Donald William (Donnie) Griffin of Durango, CO, Steven Michael Griffin of Inverness, FL, James Michael (Jimmy) Wear of St. Augustine, FL, Jesse James Wear of Ocala, FL, and Daniel Edward Wear of Ocala, FL; one granddaughter, Kimberly Wear Lingley of Venice, FL; one great-granddaughter, Wren Juliette Waters Wear; one great-grandson, Beckham Hayes Wear; along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Eugene Clyde Wear, she was preceded in death by her son, Clyde Eugene (Gene) Wear who passed September 16, 2026, granddaughter Kristen Wear who passed May 2026, grandson Robert Eugene (Gator) Wear, and great-granddaughter Taylor Patricia Griffin.

Services

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 31, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a Catholic Mass funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2507 Hwy 44 W, Inverness, FL 34453.

Burial will follow the service in Archer, FL for the family.
