John Kratky, Jr.

With great sadness, the family of John S. Kratky, Jr., of Inverness, FL, announced that he peacefully passed away on October 13, 2019 with his family at his bedside, at the age of 71.  He was born on May 22, 1948 in Bridgeport, CT, son of John and Mary Kratky.

John went to Central High School in Bridgeport, CT.  He served in the US Army from 1968 to 1969 and spent 13 months in Vietnam.  In 1987 John and his family moved to Monroe, CT where they resided until 2002. John retired from the City of Bridgeport after 36 years of employment as a Custodial Supervisor. When he retired in 2002, he moved to Homosassa, FL and in 2003, to Inverness, FL where he resided for 16 years.  His hobbies included wood carving, astronomy, stamp collecting, cooking and gardening.  He was a sports fan and loved the New York Yankees.  He loved going to church and saying the daily rosary.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Kratky; daughter, Suzanne Kratky Carris; and sisters, Janice Kratky and Marie Kratky Kenealy.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Maryann Meyernick Kratky of Inverness, FL; two children, John S. Kratky, III and his wife Jessica of Portland, OR, and Rachel Kratky of Lake Oswego, OR; a granddaughter, Cynthia Carris of Monroe, CT; two brothers, Dennis Kratky and Donald Kratky both of Stratford, CT; brother-in-law, Frank Meyernick of Stratford, CT; and several nieces and a nephew.  John was cherished by his wife, children and family.

John was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, FL.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial masses at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in the memory of John.
