George A. Hellmer , 89, of Inverness, FL died on April 17, 2017 at Citrus Health and Rehab Center in Inverness, FL.  George was born on February 1, 1928 in Bellmore, NY, son of Fred and Jennie Hellmer.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII and Army National Guard.  George retired as a supervisor for Long Island Lighting Company.  He moved to Inverness, FL in 2003 from Townville, SC.  His memberships included Inverness VFW Post 4337, NY VFW Post 7763, US Navy Seabees, and the American Legion.  He was also a member of the IBEW Local #3, NY and the Bellmore Volunteer Fire Department. George was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lillian; seven children, George A. Hellmer, Jr., of Forest Park, NY, Karen A. Fallon, Pemberton Borough, NJ, Christy Kraft and her husband Victor of Bangor, ME, Michael Hellmer of Montevideo, Uruguay, Marybeth Petrell and her husband Richard of Jamesville, NY, Lisa Geller and her husband Barry of Sparta, NJ, Annemarie Fitzpatrick and her husband John of Denver, NC; sister, Rosemary Seaman of Inverness, FL; eleven grandchildren, George III, Amy, Kieran, Erin, Sean, Michael, Paige, Hannah, Heather, Emily, and Jason; and two great grandchildren, Kristi and Alyssa.

Visiting hours for Mr. George Hellmer will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Heinz Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Our Lady Of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness, FL Interment with Military Honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.  Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness, FL.  heinzfh.com
