Christa Tracy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2026, at the age of 90, cradled in the loving arms of her daughter and surrounded by the unwavering love of her family.

Born on November 3, 1935, in Dresden, Germany, to Albert and Erna Aliethe, Christa’s life was a remarkable testament to courage, resilience, and hope. As a young girl, she survived the horrors of World War II, including the bombing of Dresden, separation from her family, and the hardships of postwar Germany. At just 16 years old, she courageously escaped East Germany to begin a new life in West Germany, where she was reunited with her father. Years later, her mother and sister also escaped, bringing the family together once again.

Despite the hardships she had endured, Christa embraced life with joy and enthusiasm.

In 1954, while performing with a dance company, she won a dance competition that earned newspaper recognition. As part of the celebration and publicity, she was invited to ride around Berlin’s famous AVUS race circuit, known for its incredible speeds and steeply banked “Wall of Death.” Though terrified, she courageously accepted the challenge, a fitting reflection of the fearless spirit that defined her life.

It was also in West Germany that God’s providence forever changed her future.

It was at an international club known as the “Eggshell” in Germany that Christa’s life changed forever. A young American soldier, James P. Tracy, who was stationed in Germany, arrived to meet a young woman with whom he had been corresponding.

When she did not appear, he invited Christa and her cousins to join him. Christa graciously accepted, and that chance encounter marked the beginning of a love story that would last a lifetime.

Although they lived 101 miles apart, their relationship blossomed through heartfelt letters and only four in-person dates. Distance never weakened the bond God had begun to weave between them.

In 1957, Christa married the love of her life, James P. Tracy. Together they built a marriage grounded in faith, devotion, and unwavering love. They immigrated to the United States in 1958, where Christa taught herself English, proudly became an American citizen in 1962, and devoted herself to raising their four children.

Her family was the greatest joy of her life. Christa expressed her love most beautifully through her kitchen, where every meal was an invitation to gather and every dessert a gift from the heart. Family and friends treasured her famous Rouladen with red cabbage and dumplings, her delicious Apfelkuchen, delicate pastries, and elegant desserts. To Christa, cooking was never simply preparing food, it was caring for the people she loved.

Christa possessed an exceptional mind for numbers and lived by an unwavering sense of honesty, integrity, and personal responsibility. She believed that doing what was right was always more important than doing what was easy, and she quietly inspired those around her through the example of a life lived with grace, strength, and compassion.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Judy, Suzan, Michael, and Steve; five cherished grandchildren; eight beloved great-grandchildren; and all whose lives were enriched by her kindness, wisdom, and enduring love.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at VITAS Hospice, especially Kyle, Lynn, Sam, and Denise, for the exceptional care and comfort they provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Christa Tracy’s memory to VITAS Hospice, the National Kidney Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or Moffitt Cancer Center Research.

Christa’s greatest legacy was not found in the hardships she overcame, but in the love she gave so freely. She taught her family that courage is quiet, kindness is a strength, and love is best expressed through everyday acts of devotion. Her spirit lives on in the family she cherished, the traditions she created, and the countless lives she touched. She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
