Charles “Chuck” Koonz , 69, of Inverness, FL died on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast in Inverness.  Charles was born on October 22, 1944 in Chicago, IL, son of Carl and Gladys Koonz.  He was awarded Co-Valedictorian of his Downers Grove North High School Class of 1962.  He went on to attend St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN in pre-dentistry.  Charles earned a DDS from University of Illinois, Chicago in 1968 and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Minnesota in 1969.  In addition to being a private practitioner, Chuck also worked as a part-time dentist at Fox Developmental Center, a state facility for severe to profound developmentally disabled children.  Chuck was a member of the Dwight Rotary Club.  He served as President of the School Board at Goodfarm Elementary School and also served four years on the Dwight Township High School Board of Education.  In his free time, Chuck was very passionate about spending time working in his yard, personally landscaping the five acres on which they lived.  In 2002, Chuck and Ann relocated to Citrus Hills in Inverness, FL.  Chuck thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, making wonderful new friends and enjoying his daily visits to the dog park with his beloved Chewey.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ann Koonz of Inverness, FL; daughter Katy Weihe and husband Steve of Mableton, GA; son, Nicholas Koonz and wife Yuki of Mableton, GA; brother, Robert Koonz of Wilmette, IL; and three grandchildren, Kylie Weihe, Ian Weihe, and Aya Koonz, all of Mableton, GA.

A funeral service for Dr. Koonz will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 at Heinz Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation at www.ccfa.org or Adopt a Rescued Pet, P.O.
