Bruce was a true Floridian, having been born in Jacksonville on July 31, 1946 and growing up in West Palm Beach, Florida. He graduated from Palm Beach High in 1964, attended Georgia Tech University on an ROTC scholarship, where he graduated in 1968 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He then served four years in the United States Navy on the USS Lawe and USS Blakely.
Bruce’s career in retail management began at Burdines Dept stores, followed by Burger King Corporation in Miami, and Starbucks in Washington state. Leaving the corporate world and returning to Florida, Bruce and his wife Jennifer purchased a wholesale flower nursery in Bushnell, FL to begin a new life as a farmer, a profession that he loved.
Bruce was an active member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, a participant in the Pool Skool water aerobics at Whispering Pines park, and a talented woodworker.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jennifer McMurray of Inverness, daughter Janet McMurray of Miami, son Sean McMurray (Joy) of Warner Robbins, Ga, daughter Michelle Burgess (Chuck) Columbia, MO, son Robert McMurray, currently residing in Australia. Grandchildren Tyler, Kenzie, Leah and Sam McMurray, along with 3 year old Clive Burgess round out Bruce’s legacy.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him!
