Benno Harrer

Benno Frederick Harrer, “Ben”, age 76, of Hernando Florida died Sunday, July 19, 2015.Ben was born in Des Plaines, Illinois on October 11, 1938 the son of Benno and Ella Harrer. He Graduated from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana in 1960. Ben was a U.S. Army veteran. He moved to Hernando in 2001 from Elk Grove Village, Illinois where he had lived for 31 years. He was a shoe salesman at Marshall Fields for more than 20 years. Since 2001, Ben had been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He was the director of the Vacation Bible School program for 7 years from 2002 to 2009. He sang in two church choirs for over 40years and coordinated The Pairs & Spares Club where church members enjoyed the unique activities and luncheons he planned each month. Ben had a love of gardening and a passion for knowing the names of countless plants and trees. He is survived by one daughter, Lisa Rackley and her husband Ryan of Howey in the Hills, FL and one son , Johnathan.

Services for Mr. Harrer will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hernando, FL on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11 AM. A luncheon will follow. Inurnment will take place at Florida National Cemetery at a later date.
