Arthur J. Hass

HASS, ARTHUR JOHN, 101,Brooksville, Florida, passed peacefully on February 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Arthur and Elsie (NEE Strebelow) Hass on February 15, 1923. Mr. Hass was a Lutheran by faith and was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. 


In addition to serving his nation, Arthur also worked in the office on the Nickel Plate Railroad and as a door-to-door milk man for the Old Meadow Creamery.  As a boy and a young man, he loved and played baseball into his 40’s.  In 1988, he and his wife Lillian retired and made a permanent move to Florida where he would enjoy camping, the outdoors, and the game of golf. Arthur loved playing golf in both Florida and in Land Harbor, North Carolina where he and Lillian would spend their summers.  He was known for his sense of humor, his smile, his quick wit, and his simplicity.  Arthur was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Brooksville. 


He is survived by his children: Diane (late Gary) Osborne, Holly (Gregory) LaMont and Arthur (Elizabeth) Runyon-Hass; 5 Grandchildren, Eric Osborne, Matthew Osborne, Katharine Mitchell, Hannah Runyon-Hass and Jack Runyon-Hass; 5 Great-Grandchildren, Paul Osborne, Michael Osborne, Maxwell Osborne, Abigail Osborne and Rebecca Osborne; his sister Ellen (NEE Hass) Sabiers, his special friend Terry Hilton; and many other extended family and friends that were part of his long enduring life. 


In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded by his wife Lillian in 2007 and his sister, Harriet (NEE Hass) Sauer. 


Arthur will be laid to rest next to his wife at Florida National Cemetery on March 4, 2024, at 11:30 AM in Bushnell following a graveside service with Pastor Paul Meseke and Honors provided by the US Army.
