Arthur Upton Butler

Arthur Upton Butler, 68, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at his home in Homosassa, Florida.

He was finally starting to seem like himself again after his recent heart surgery and multiple health issues, making his sudden departure a profound loss for his loved ones.

Born on September 23, 1957, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Arthur spent his life charting his own course with an independent spirit. He proudly served his country in his youth through an early, short-lived military career that helped shape the resourceful, handy man he would become.

Arthur loved spending time with his children and creating lasting memories through laughter, outdoor adventures, and simple moments together. He valued his independence and lived life in a way that reflected his strong sense of self.

Arthur was happiest on the water. An avid fisherman, he spent countless hours waiting for the next big catch. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his talent in the kitchen. He was a truly great cook who loved feeding the people he cared about, turning a simple meal into a celebration.

He was a man who saw potential in absolutely everything. He never threw anything away, firmly believing that every gadget, tool, or spare part would have a use down the road. Arthur was always trying to fix things, and his home and workspace stood as a creative testament to his persistent, handy spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bettie Butler, and his sister, Yvette Kelley.

He is survived by his children, Jessica Moragues, Crystal Richter, Austin Butler, and Logan Butler; and his grandchildren, Braden and Trenton Richter, and Bettie, Abraham, and Thornton Butler. He also leaves behind extended family and friends who will deeply miss his cooking, his stories, and his unique way of looking at the world.

A celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date. In honor of Arthur's memory, cast a line, cook a great meal, or take a moment to enjoy the Florida outdoors.
