Alfred J. Soffe, 84, of Inverness, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family. Alfred was born on March 22, 1933 in Hicksville, Long Island, NY, son of Enos and Helen Soffe. He was a veteran of the US Airforce. Alfred worked as a clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Glen Cove, NY. He moved to Inverness in 1992 from Huntington, Long Island, NY. Alfred was 3 rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus #6391 and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness. His memberships included being a Life Member of the DAV and American Legion, Huntington, Long Island, NY.
Mr. Soffe is preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Collins; brothers, Emerson Soffe and Arthur Soffe; sisters, Rose Maloney and Harriett Soffe; brother in law, Dennis Briffe and sisters in law, Barbara Soffe and Ruth Ann Soffe. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marlene Soffe of Inverness, FL; six siblings, Katherine Pliskin of Huntington, NY; Victor Soffe of Glen Cove, NY, Lillian McGuire of Glen Cove, NY, Helen Mallon and husband Alex of North Port, NY, Elsie Soffe of Huntington, NY, Rita Briffe of St. James, NY, and Linda Soffe of Huntington, NY; three grandchildren, Christa Simms (Dane) of Inverness, FL, Sara Collins and Jesse Collins, both of Vancouver, WA; great granddaughter, Coraline Simms of Inverness, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Mr. Soffe will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Heinz Funeral Home with a rosary at 4:30 and vigil service at 5:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.
